Mixed Emotions

Should the sky be blue and bright When tears swim, wanting to run Across my cheek and face The taste of brine reminds me of pain and joy, sorrows and funerals Weddings and celebrations of life. Tonight I am sad, hollow...aching! Tomorrow the sun will rise Tomorrow my tears will dry Tomorrow my sorrow will be masked Behind a fascade of a kindhearted face

Before retirement, I wrote and edited prose for a living most of my life. Poetry occupied my youth and I had about 100 poems published 40 years ago before I put the others in boxes while I worked to feed and educate 5 kids. In retirement I read and listened to Gregorian Chant till my wife bought me this computer. Now I am back on the treadmill editing myself. No rest for the Irish.

Regarding "Kaleidoscope and Harpsichord," the only thing true in that poem is that my wife one time with kindness said that reading one of my poems was like looking through the former while listening to the latter. But two years ago she bought me this computer and showed me where I had stored boxes of poems decades ago. Since then, 496 poems published here and abroad. She was tired of me listening to Gregorian Chant and reading esoteric periodicals. Now I type all the time.

I wrote "Let's Look Around" for a grammar school friend who although successful in life is now an agnostic. I have always believed but that is a gift from God. He once believed and now does not. I try to bring him back, if only by showing that the existence of God can be proved by reason although it takes faith to believe in Jesus Christ. I have no idea why I still believe and he does not.

Regarding "lemon underwear," the lemon for me is simply a color and a stage of age and disrepair the underwear is in, which is the stage the Browne was in. Sorry it did not work for you. But your "Mixed Emotions" is a nice poem of the kind I sometimes manage to write.

It's amazing what a smile can hide. I truly could feel the pain behind it though. Check out the website 1000awesomethings.com --it honeslty changed the way I go about my day--it's so simple & will make you smile!
