Mistaken Identity

Is it too late to declare that I have made an unfortunate mistake? Is it too late to confess my erroneous miscalculation? I took you for a father, a friend, a brother, a mentor not knowing that YOU were only an impostor. Pretending to care when I was in despair, Pretending to celebrate when I was elated, Pretending to mourn when I wore a frown. Pretending, Pretending, always pretending. So, answer this crucial question- is it too late to declare that I have made an unfortunate or rather grave mistake?

Just don't mistake your own identity, or voice, and you will do well. Good poem. My own father never even pretended to care.
