Mistaken Identity

It is almost midnight The mist blankets the beach I feel a chill coming from inside My heart is pounding The throbbing in my ears drowns out the sound of rushing waves I know someone or something is watching me I clutch my chest, hoping the tightness will lighten my fear. I hear heavy breathing I brace myself for the unknown I force myself to turn Starring back at me is a stray German Shepherd with his tongue hanging out Hoping I had a tasty treat to appease his hunger.
