Missing You

I'm missing you today
Remembering mornings of quick hellos
And nights of close connection and deep conversation
Wondering if you have similar pulls tugging at you to break the silence
No matter how subtle or subdued

In the here and now
I'm trying to hold fast to the progress I've made
Gently reminding myself not to reach out
While at the same time, dismissing thoughts that want to sway and convince me to

Because if I do
I risk getting caught in the curse of those feelings
Entangled in the whimsy of it all
Falling into the illusion that you still love me
And wanting to believe that you still do

I just can't handle that again
Because when I fall
It takes every last ounce of strength in my being to get back up
