Missed Sounds

I long to hear some sounds
relegated into my past
like the sound of TV
on downstairs,
or the tread of steps
coming up,
to use the bathroom,
or someone else
on the phone talking
or even the sound
of a family member
snoring

something other
than the distant bellowing
of a train's horn
and geese quacking
through the night
or the constant buzz
of small planes
flying over head

nothing wrong
with those sounds,
they're lovely,
in their own way
it's just I long
once more
to hear
those sounds
of a distant yesterday.
