Miss Congeniality
Can you imagine
Me once voted Miss Congeniality
I vaguely remember
Being innocent and naïve
Sporting that permanent smile
Wide-eyed and trusting
So eager and hopeful
What I do remember clearly
Is waking up each morning
Convinced this day would be better
Excited at the prospect
Something great would happen
What I would give to
Never have grazed
That fine line of disillusion
