Mirthless Meditation

I close my eyes
Sensing the warmth of the sun on my face
Sitting all alone on this dock
My mind wanders to you

I Inhale the warm evening air deep into my lungs
Trying to drown out the clatter in my head
Willing my thoughts to focus on my breath
Hoping to ease the longing still felt in my heart

A year ago, I was in much the same place
Struggling to end the tears
Counting down the days
Awaiting your return

Tonight, the lake is calm and still
Unlike that of my anxious thoughts
This time the wait has no end
The depth of the pain, deeper
The void, emptier
But still, my thoughts wander to you
And I wonder if your thoughts are wandering too

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts about mirthless meditation through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." God bless you.
