Mirror, Mirror
When I look in the mirror...
I see everything you see.
Indubitably I see things you cannot see.
Invariably I feel things you cannot feel.
Intrinsically I see both the good and evil
that has manifested in my heart.
When I look in the mirror...
I see words on top of words.
I see how they create a cacophony
of indecipherable scribbles.
The sum of a person is more than one word
but the sum of my existence is pain.
When I look in the mirror...
I see the opposite of what I really am.
I am a distortion of light and darkness
Intertwined like gnarled branches.
These branches are biting against my heart
making me bleed.
When I look in the mirror...
I just want to see someone worthy of love.
Instead I see a coward who can't cultivate relationships
and a charlatan lost to the throes of no self-esteem.
I see a man who would rather give up
than pursue a path of healing and redemption.
When I look in the mirror...
I see myself stripped not only of my clothes
but also of all the excuses to hold myself back.
I see a man who faces a staircase of gold
and if the truth must be told
I'm running out of chances to climb those steps.
When I look in the mirror...
I see everything you see.
I see words on top of words.
I see the opposite of what I really am.
I see someone worthy of love.
I see myself stripped of my clothes and excuses.
That's what I see when I look in the mirror.
A culmination of calamity and insanity
sweetly gift wrapped and kissed by an angel
like a present to the world
for what I see in the mirror
is the manifestation of my heart.
