Miracle and Mystery
What makes you so able
to briefly but so surely remove all my pain,
to take away everything but
the moment and the miracle,
and yet at the same time
be such a catalyst for emotional uprising?
What makes you simultaneously be
so cathartic, so relaxing,
so spellbinding and so haunting,
and yet at the same time
so energetic, so exultant,
so robust and so real?
I see you cascade down from the heavens,
drumming your ceaseless cadence on the earth,
a player without need of a partner;
and yet, your ever vigilant companions,
rolling thunder and sudden lightning strike,
accentuate your music with flashes and percussive blasts.
Rain, you can elicit such feelings,
flow onto, into, and through me,
thrill me to my core;
and yet also recall such pain,
through memories made in your shadow,
stark reality brought to light in bursts.
You are a mystery,
much like the life you oft bring;
much like the death you sometimes cause.
You are my entertainment, my eternal balm,
and revealer of a tortured past,
all in one awe-inspiring event;
emotion incarnate.
