Minnesota Protestors will have to Wear Bullet Proof Vests now
Minnesota
used to be snow and silence
and beer that went down like forgiveness.
now it’s sirens
and boots
and men with guns who look bored
the way executioners do
before lunch.
they say:
wear a vest.
like it’s just another fashion season—
spring jackets, fall coats,
winter armor.
strap it on
over your ribs
over your weak heart
over the place where you still believe
standing in the street
means something.
there are mothers out there
with cardboard signs
and shaking hands
and children who don’t know
why the air smells like tear gas
and broken promises.
the bullets don’t care
what side you’re on.
they don’t read your sign.
they don’t vote.
they don’t pray.
they just fly
like bad ideas
set loose by cowards
in clean uniforms.
the politicians watch from warm rooms,
drinking clean water,
talking about order
like it’s a religion
and chaos is a disease.
but chaos is just people
who finally ran out of patience.
so put on your vest, kid,
button it up over your fear,
walk into the cold
with your voice shaking
and your spine straight,
because the streets belong
to whoever is brave enough
to bleed in them.
and Minnesota
is learning fast
that freedom
is a contact sport.
