Ministry of Joy

In marble halls,
thick folders breathe vision for children,
policies unfurling like morning lotus,
each page a petal
promising sunshine in distant classrooms.

Fluorescent lights hum above conference tables,
where signatures bloom into budget lines,
and happiness becomes a line item,
measurable,
funded.

Regional offices busy,
photocopiers clicking their mechanical prayers,
sending circular,
dreams down
dusty highways to
sleepy district towns.

Administrators clutch coffee-stained directives,
translating joy into teacher training schedules,
infrastructure blueprints,
sketched on napkins during hurried lunches.

Village elders
gather beneath the banyan tree,
 School Management Committee …
spelled out in fading paint
on a weathered signboard.

Mothers count rupees in worn cotton saris,
fathers debate in voices thick with hope,
children's laughter drifting
from nearby fields
like future promises.

Office windows
frame the playground's chaos,
a principal waters small potted dreams,
watching teachers
tend their classrooms
like secret gardens.

Bell schedules
soften into organic rhythms,
report cards bloom
with stories instead of numbers,
and happiness takes root
in faculty meetings.

Chalk dust settles on transformation:
Rigid desk rows dissolve into circles,
learning corners sprout like wildflowers,
art supplies scattered across rainbow tables,
musical instruments breathing in corners.

A teacher's hands
shape air into meaning,
students' eyes wide
as morning glories drinking light,
minds unfurling
like ferns in filtered sunshine.

Meditation bells replace
examination anxiety.
Children close eyes,
breathe in wonder,
breathe out worry.

Stories flow
instead of lectures,
emotions named
and welcomed like
old friends returning home.

Laughter echoes
through corridors
once silent with fear.

Classroom walls no longer white,
murals bloom in primary rebellion:
Blue skies
chase away institutional gray,
green trees grow from concrete corners,
yellow suns warm forgotten spaces,
where creativity
was once confined to art periods.

Portfolio folders thick with life:
finger paintings alongside essays,
photographs of science experiments
gone beautifully wrong,
recordings of poetry
read with trembling joy.

No child reduced to numbers,
each soul documented in full spectrum,
witnessed in their becoming.

School gates swing open,
boundaries blur
between learning and living.

Grandparents share stories in library corners,
local artisans teach forgotten crafts,
farmers bring soil-stained wisdom to sterile classrooms.
Education spills beyond walls,
life flows in.

From policy paper to playground laughter,
A bureaucrat's vision becomes a child's reality:
Happiness no longer curriculum supplement,
but the very air learning breathes,
Creativity not Friday afternoon luxury but daily bread,
Joy not reward for compliance,
but the medium through which understanding flows
like water finding its level,
like light finding every corner of a room once dark.

In the end, all the meetings, all the forms, all the budgets distill to this:
A child running toward school instead of away, arms wide to embrace the day's endless possibilities.

Every new fact learned is a blessing. I enjoy the way you covered education from the behind the scenes workers to the teachers and most of all, the happy children who were transformed by knowledge.
