Minding the Heart
my mind wakes me up at three
wants to tell me what to write
my heart says wait till the morn
and turns out the light
my fingers grab for the pen
and a notebook kept at the bedside
before it’s half past the hour
my eyes close and hide.
words are scrawled above the lines
nothing rhymes from page to page
my ears turn in, deaf to it all
I’m in limbo, I need to disengage
ink paving the solitude of writing
no support from the fellowship
the mind endures the load without spite
and retains itself from giving lip
from the start, this composition has a purpose
to illustrate that the mind cannot work alone
having said that, the heart is capable and reliable
it will not falter and become dethroned
no correlation between thoughts of the mind
and the sincerity of the hearts credibility
all of which implies a mind has a will of its own
but the heart has a deeper insight and gentility
