Self-knowledge is useful up to a point, but it is not wholly practical. It may help a little to know yourself well but life must be lived regardless of this.
Mind Mapping
I wandered lonely through my mind
on a day trip with a map,
an Ordnance Survey Map with details.
The people and places hidden there
all greeted me, old friends and old haunts
neatly stacked and filed in memory.
A Mind Map leads to thinking,
processing, calculating and developing.
How does it work, this neural network?
I sought after my soul and found
it cowering and concealed in a corner,
crushed by the worries of the world.
Personality appeared split, unable to agree
on mind-mapped sanity when faced with
the frenzy of life, whether real or imagined.
I passed the library of the mind,
the place of study, invention and skill,
the source of new thoughts and ideas.
A mind full of busy thoughts,
considerations and wanderings,
brain-driven while desiring tranquillity.
Perhaps the thoughts belonged to someone else,
heard, taught, caught, nurture, nature?
So I wandered on in search of peace.
And then the Mind Map merged with reason
as I lived the day before me.
