Midnight Into Music
You struck an endless chord
and played a mystic song.
You brought the moonlight down
and held it all night long.
You were the breathless image
of showering light and love.
Your form embraced the morning
and rang like chimes above.
Now, singing sweet exquisite,
moving deep and good,
you tremble in my vision
and murmur in my blood.
Your tenderness comes sighing,
as you rise inside my mind.
I feel you moving graceful
so warm and sweet and kind.
I'll hold you in the shadows
of days that will not die.
And though I’ll miss you always,
I'm never gonna cry.
Because in street or café,
in rain and fire and breath,
the sacred song of Susan
will sing beyond my death.
I'll find you in the twilight
when earth and sun have gone.
I'll meet you in the glimmer
inside your timeless song.
All golden, pure and lovely,
you'll always walk my street
and come up in my memory
so warm and good and sweet.
So, let me just remember
the slightest trace of you
and I'll live a thousand lifetimes
in the beauty that you do.
You gave me something endless
that no one's ever seen,
and centuries after midnight
you'll always fill my dreams.
