Midnight Answer

You ride through shadows, chasing dawn, But you never saw the storm you spawned. I’m not the girl you left behind-- I walk the dark with purpose, spine. Your wheels may spin on borrowed fate, But I was born to navigate. I don't chase ghosts or beg for grace; I set my fire and claim my place. The night knows me--I wear its name, Not weeping soft, but burning flame. No chains to break, no debt to pay-- I forged my freedom, kept the way. So ride, lone wolf, your distant mile. I walk in boots, not in denial. You had your shot, your smoke, your song. But I’ve been midnight all along. Authors Notes: poetic response to Midnight Rider by The Allman Brothers Band

You did so very well i this write. I like how you 'told him off' in an amicable way. You are another talented poet who can create and rhyme at the same time.

Thank you so much, Hilda! That means a lot to me--especially coming from another poet who appreciates both craft and spirit. I’m so glad you felt the strength behind the words. Sometimes the best “telling off” is done with fire and rhythm! So grateful for your kind words and encouragement.

A poem of inner will, I think- never ever let anyone take your spirit. <3 :)

You felt it exactly, Paige. It is about holding onto your fire--especially when someone tries to dim it. I love how you always catch the quiet strength in a poem. Thank you so much for reading and leaving your light here. <3

I agree with Victor, it is a rant, THE KIND I LOVE WHEN POETICALLY DELIVERED IN WHAM WHAM TIGHT WORD RHYME BAMS. So good. Allman Brothers have always been a part of my life, well, since high school. Sorry Greg died after he got sober, he left behind beautiful lyrics and an emotive song voice I still spend time with. Enjoyed ... CayCay

CayCay, your comment made me grin so big--WHAM WHAM TIGHT WORD RHYME BAMS is exactly the energy I was aiming for! I’m with you on Greg Allman--such a soulful voice, gone too soon, but his music still rides on in moments like these. Thank you for feeling the fire in this one and letting it hit. So glad it resonated with you!

This sounds almost as a rant. Alas I'm not much of a music lover. Your poem is deep. Midnight is a lovely hour really, but now I'm old and go to bed at nine.

Thank you so much, Victor. Midnight does have a strange beauty, doesn’t it? I really appreciate your thoughts, even if music isn’t your favorite muse--this one was definitely written with a bit of fire and a nod to a classic rock mood. Maybe not quite a rant, but definitely a reclaiming! Wishing you peaceful dreams well before the witching hour.

There is a brand of love that can only withstand a single kiss before the soul awakes into the midnight of a jealous journey where one must be one and truth must be true for the heart to understand the meaning of rare need...There seems to be a sullen pride in this heartfelt poem of self assured perseverance Poetess. I think it's bold, sweetly somber, and praise worthy. I believe the answer is from the heart, for the heart. "I set my fire and claim my place..." I'm FAVing this...J.A.B.

Justin, your comment reads like a poem in itself, thank you for such a layered, thoughtful reflection. “A jealous journey where one must be one” that line alone feels like it belongs in the same universe as this piece. Midnight Answer came from a place of defiant stillness, the kind that only arrives after the fire’s already been lit. I’m honored it spoke to you and truly appreciate the FAV and praise. Keep writing your truth, always. Alesia

This marvelous, Alesia with bold, unique images that flow so lyrically through each line. I love the first person perspective and I especially like the last line. Such wonderful poetic artistry. So glad I got to experience this poem. Blessings to you.

Thank you so much, Sam--that truly means a lot to me. Midnight Answer was written as both a reclaiming and a reckoning, and I’m so glad the imagery and voice struck a chord. The last line came to me as a declaration--I wanted it to echo long after the ride was over. Your kind words and encouragement mean the world. Blessings back to you, always.
