Michelangelo Gets Caught

Michelangelo preferred sculpture to paint
Pope Julius said, “To get by you can’t.”
For I want you to clearly understand
To decorate that ceiling, I demand
Michelangelo knew he had to do it
Thus he quickly got right on to it
When the Pope went out of town
Michelangelo started to stall around
Julius decided to see what took so long
He saw Michelangelo doing it wrong
Painting by numbers was his plan
The Pope cried, “Man, oh man!”
“This had better turn out well
Or I will assign you down to hell”
At that the artist began to quake
And his legs to violently shake
So Julius’ anger would cease
Michelangelo did a masterpiece
