Meter and Me

Meter is a form of poetry that often makes me quake, Each time I try to write it, the scheme may keep me awake. Those syllable counts that form the scheme, Repeatedly draw my attention away from my theme. I know that there are those whose writings embrace this form, Could I but write it correctly would make me feel fuzzy and warm. Poetry has always challenged me, On and on my mind to find the right words you see. Each time I put pen to paper and commit words to a page, I think this is the last I'll do, it's my best, it will be the rage. Yet every time I finish one, I find another thought pops into my mind, Today it is about meter, tomorrow it may be about rhyme. Sometimes I starve for words to finish, just like this time.

Nicely done, Dan. i think for most people it becomes something mental. It is really quite simple. Just like anything else, one must practice. It will eventually get to the point when you will struggle not to write in meter.
