Mercy

My thoughts re-tract to cloudy memory of sitting in circle playing Mercy.
Hands intertwined and locked in place, staring your opponent in the face.

Simple back then, being only a game.
As an adult, it's hard to refrain.
From screaming it out when you've had enough.
Standing your ground without being too tough.

Wouldn't it be nice if this game was enforced.
Like a law of the land, your could scream it till your hoarse.
If anyone pushed too hard and tried to push you over, you could yell "Mercy"
and that moment would be over.

A simple word that everyone understood.
Mercy please.
Leave me be, I'll go back to doing good.
