mom and dad …

thank you so much
for all the big AND little things that
you taught me thru the years -
mostly through instruction
and patient example …
the life lessons
the etiquette
the skills and knowledge and meanings
the prayers and jokes
the sciences and arts and processes …
the nature and stars and planets
the things that kept me safe
the things that made me complete
the things that taught me to ask questions
and taught me when to speak up
or hold my tongue …
thank you for teaching me how to
take care of myself … and how
to take care of others
(you, especially)
thank you for teaching me how …
and when …
and why … and why not …
but mostly, now
thank you for teaching me how to
be considerate of others -
how to be thoughtful and kind and caring
and sensitive to those around me
especially those I love …
those things - those intangible things
are the things that keep me whole
the things that express love most convincingly
the things that prove its depth 
and the things that most honor YOU
far more than any words I could
ever hope to speak … or write …
thank you, dad and mom -
for those intricate expressions of your
kindnesses … and care
I miss you
and love you …

so much.
