Memory's Magic Spell

You recall his every feature,
his unique laugh
and sexy smile;
his exuberance magnified by his zest for life.
Shifting between feelings of love and grief,
smiles and tears mingle with your pain;
and yet, time fails to subdue death's impact.
You feared the ugliness of death;
yet you looked upon his face,
and said goodbye with a kiss.
Tethered to the past,
your heart falls prey to memory's magic spell;
selective thoughts console your soul.
And forever feelings surface;
carried by an emotional force
that causes you to stumble for support;
reflecting on the years you've shared.
Merely holding hands, once kindled longings
that fueled passion's flame;
and made life worth living.
And yet, now, it's time you shed one final tear;
let it water your withered heart
and allow love to bloom within it,
once again.
