Notes About The Poem

MEMORY

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I. Grandmother's teacup— chipped rim against morning light. Steam carries her voice through kitchen's cinnamon haze. My thumb traces where hers did. II. October wind gusts, scattering maple keys like childhood marbles. Lost in tall grass, knees stained with earth— was that laughter or the rain? III. Old cassette tape whines a song we danced to once. Silence between notes holds the shape of your shoulder against mine. Still warm. Still here.
