Memories Without a Face
Standing on the shoreline
Watching life flow by
Can’t remember how to swim
Too afraid to try.
The footprints are silent
Leaving no trace
Where memories of the past
No longer have a face.
It moves in deliberately
Like a cloudy day
Covering the mind
And blowing it astray.
Little by little
It devours away
Erasing the knowledge
That once guided the way.
Wandering like a lost child
In a brutal desert storm
Feeling the grains of sand
Sting like a sharp thorn.
Standing on the shoreline
Watching the past flow by
Unable to remember
Or understand why.
