Memories On the River

Many years have passed, many summers and winters gone Yet, I still remember the murmur of your waters. My dad sitting on your bank, his fishing line thrown far out and staked for a tight line. My thoughts repressed in deep seclusion and connected to sky and river. The day has come when I compose these lines under this willow and view you Rugged Old River. I watch your currents in muddy hue vanish in the depths of the deep, taking my memories with them. All those long-ago years packed into your mysterious waters, leads me on. I sit here in the first light of a distant star, hanging on my heart, I have turned to you, Big River. Now, from these faded thoughts and passed recognition of your beauty, my mind again revives. I sit here among the river willows by the side of your deep water. I come back seeking the things I love, seeking nature and my boyhood days. I hear the movement of animals as they scurry to their beds. I can not paint it on canvas or say it with words, I have to see you, Big River. I have to see the past, those good times are no more. I know you will never betray me, who loved you so. I, who’s so impressed with your quietness and beauty. I know there will always be memories of my dad and my boyhood years on your banks, healing my mind. We were together with nature and you, Big River.

Ahhh!! I enjoyed reading your work so thoughtfully presented in poetic form about the lovely river who shares your memories of days gone by. Sara
