Memories of High School Dances

We girls, dressed our vert best! Curled our hair, a tad of makeup. Clothes, must most modest be. Skirts, well below the knee! Boys had to wear suits. To respect us with utmost chivalry. And indeed, they did! Rules and morals, planted firmly in our heads. I wonder what it is like now? Knowing, it is not the same. Where sexuality is the game! And if there is any sense of shame? These memories of by-gone days. Honey-sweet with magical anticipation. An adolescent empire just bursting With respectful, innocent play and a Delight in cordial admiration! 12/6/2022

Kids I knew in the 50's and early 60's while I was in Jr. High and High School, were very nieve. Kids today in the 5th or 6th grade know more about sex and drugs than an average high school student in my time. Most things beyond holding hands were accomplished in the mind only. lol Enjoyed your poem, Pangie. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

I always wonder if the kids in the 50s all kept their morals the way we picture them doing. For sure, they were definitely more chaste than todays kids who make party games out of things that were unspeakable even in MY day (I was 70s girl). yes, things have really changed, and it's very sad in many ways.

I don’t know what 900 girls did in my Hs. And, it’s none of my business. My job was being chaste? Is a big yes...things get weirder all the time. You do know what I mean. You are quite hip! Pangie

Eve, same here. Top that with Sixteen years of Catholic nuns, priests and friars plus Bishop Sheen at age twelve...Morality was prime! No such thing as a pregnant girl, when I grew up. Today, they are proud of it. Really? Who funds these babies? US Americans! Their own parents should take full responsibility. Pangie

You brought back some fond memories of those days, Pangie! Then we danced cheek to cheek with romantic music not the deplorable crap called music today. Bob H

Hi Always a treat to hear from you. Cheek to cheek is correct to a T! I love that expression. It was so romantic.....l being older, today’s music is akin to some strange music from another land...perhaps each generation thinks the same? I was catching a moment in time that exists no more. Perhaps I am wrong, love to you and your cat! Pangie and her cat 1/7/. 6am

Your poem brings back a flood of memories for me, Pangie. Some might argue that the dances you attended seem 'quaint' now. I would argue that they were 1,000% better than any 'dances' going on in high schools today. Thanks for the trip back in time. Anticipation and Hope, Gershon

This was not meant to say which period of time was better!quaibt is fine with me. I only see how kids younger than 12 dance on Tv, more like young strippers....The Golden Globes Awards? Everyone flashed their bodily globes.I am far from square, but it is a like a strip show of old. And kids watch it? Nothing like good dancing...I do mean good. Oy, excuse the title...incorrectly spelled. Oh, those great HS dances in Elmwood Park. Pangie. Thank you. 1/7. 6:30@an
