Memories I Chased

Memories I chased for too many years
Trying to hold onto what I knew.
What I thought would make me happy
Only caused me sorrow and tears.
My life revolved around my love for you.
I only wanted what was familiar to me
I thought that trying to keeping you near
would protect me from the suffering I once knew.

However they only kept me glued in place.
I was refusing to let go and set myself free
Scared of what the future would bring
Forgetting I needed my own personal space
As I never saw life going on around me
I need to leave now and spread my wings
I won't shed another tear over losing you.
Keeping only the lessons as they helped form me
