Memories fade

Soft light drifts away,
broken thoughts like curling smoke,
meaning fades to air
brushing past my fingertips,
silent whispers lost in mist.

A beautifully restrained tanka—its soft, dissolving imagery of smoke, mist, and fingertips perfectly embodies the quiet ache of memory slipping beyond reach. The gentle cadence makes the sadness feel intimate and lingering. Congratulations on your contest win
