Memories
The memories we have within ourselves
The ones we have upon our shelves.
Are what we remember as being true
Because of our perception and what we knew.
We all look at life through our own eyes
Our memories are what provide the ties
That binds us to the essence of who we are
And the time we have spent on earth thus far.
What reality is, one could question.
What is right – what is wrong - - which direction?
A consensus of people is what we look for
To validate the memories that knock at our door.
The memories we have are precious to us.
In families, if they don’t jive – what is the fuss?
If we share experiences not remembered the same - -
Is it okay to point a finger and cast blame?
Because I do not remember the same as you
Does it mean mine is wrong and yours is true?
We each have our path to walk along
And each of our lives has their own song.
We see things the way they need to be seen
To fit for us and the life we have preened.
You have your memories and I have mine
And it is okay if they are not in line.
