Memories

Memories are like gifts that life brings along.
You must hide them away, deep in your heart,
But always bring them out, and hold them close,
When you are in deep need of comfort and love.

They can make you cry, they can make you laugh.
But if you don’t hold to them, tight and sure,
They will slip away, and be no more.
And you will have nothing to remember, no light or joy.

It is these memories, of times past
that remind us to look for the sun in our cloudy skies.
And though in front of you may be darkness and despair,
You still have those memories of gladness and glee

To be your last string of hope,
Though fraying and battered it may be,
It does not matter, for now you have the key
To the truest of happiness, and the purest of joy.

Thanks, Ashley, for commenting on my Happinesss acrostic. Memories can bring true happiness just as well; your third verse is my favorite here; but the whole pieces fits happiness like a cold hand in warm glove.
