Memories

My memories of childhood
Are clouded by my pain
It feels like many of those years
Were drenched by torrential rain

The storm that swirled around my head
My feelings of persistent dread
Were constant companions to me
Never far from my side
Always causing me to run and hide

Many years have passed since then
But I still feel the past closing in
It invades the peace I've managed to find
It settles in and disturbs my mind
I push it back and turn the key
And lock away the misery
