Memorial

I arrived in the church
By a gravitational tug
I considered myself
Unworthy to hug

The door was greeted
By a familiar face
With a painted on smile
Pain, covered in lace

For a moment, I stood
Alone, in the foyer
Til I finally concluded
I would have to avoid her

My eyes hit the floor
One foot, then the other
The whole time, I was lost
But, I too, loved your mother

Your face was so square
When I closed in on you
I squeezed you, in passing
Not sure what to do

I proceeded forward
Appointing a seat
Tuned in on the slideshow
My presence, discreet

The carousel of photos
Took my heart for a ride
But my face became blank
My tears would subside

In the conclusion
At the close of the day
I didn’t see colors
But a thick, morbid, grey
