MEMENTO ON THE MOON
MEMENTO ON THE MOON
Constructed from moondust, a statue stands
Grey and almost now a part of the landscape
Built to represent mankind’s lunar exploration
But somehow feels like there is no celebration
Back on Earth TV, viewers’ mouths are agape
They see that the statue shows clasped hands
As if it’s a prayer perhaps even to be a guide
Dust with adhesive, moulded and compressed
Shaped well, and with sensitive understanding
The world’s economy means no more landing
Perhaps as a memento of better times, is best
On the lip of a crater quite near the dark side
It will fondly remember the touch of mankind
The blend of scientist, engineer and artist too
It wasn’t commissioned, just made on a whim
Inspired by rover trip to a nearby crater’s rim
And is meant as a hope for a more open view
That one day, joint space travel gets realigned
