I feel melancholy today,
for Autumn has turned damp and cool.
And the day wears a veil of grey
as the children head back to school,
trekking through mud
and piles of crud.
It is a wet, depressing day;
a scarecrow stands out like a fool.
And I fear Winter's on its way
as dead leaves fill my empty pool;
falling from trees,
stripped with each breeze.
