I don’t know who invented it but it has a rhyme scheme of ABABCC ABABDD, and a syllable pattern of 888844 888844 (looks good centered, but that’s optional)

I feel melancholy today Autumn days have turned damp and cool. And the sun wears a veil of grey as the children head back to school, trekking through mud and piles of crud. It's a depressing kind of day when a scarecrow seems more the fool. For I know winter is on its way and as leaves fill my empty pool, skeletal trees curse each brisk breeze. Wonderful images of a "melancholy" sort of day. Nicely-written, Emile. I really enjoyed it, but I've been under the influence of pain pills all day. Had a tooth pulled and it is hurting where no tooth is. Can you beat that? Good poem for the contest. Best wishes.
