Meet Me In Waitangi

The feud in our families vetoes our bond We’re stood back to back for fear we’d abscond They force you to walk, keep moving, don't stop At gunpoint I’m ordered to walk ’til I drop So each step we take is two further apart But nothing will crush the intent in our heart So walk, run or drive, take a boat or a plane Just as I shall till I see you again Someday our footprints will meet in the sand And no man shall stay me from taking your hand For twelve thousand miles will bring you to to me And we’ll be together in Waitangi *** [Waitangi is in the Chatham Islands, New Zealand and is very very nearly London’s antipode (opposite point on the globe). London’s actual antipode is 800 km away in the Pacific Ocean but meeting up in a couple of rubber dinghies seemed a little Far fetched.] 2 May 2021 Contest: Footprints Sponsor: Carolyn Derbyshire

So creative, Terry! I love how you describe your journey to Waitangi and am impressed with your knowledge of geography. (On the antipode of the Bermuda Triangle is the Devil's Triangle in the Pacific with similar inexplicable disappearances.) There were many extraordinary poems in this contest. Congratulations on a well-deserved win! And thank you for supporting the contest. Hugs, Carolyn

I loved the story and you carry a natural rhythm. Easy to read and easy to understand. Good luck Terry. I will try to remember to read more of your poems:)

Thanks Daniel. I’m mostly pleased that you ‘got it’. Very pleased you liked it. Terry
