Meera's Song

Meera’s song - Updated 2023 Meera is a dancer So simple and sincere, But only a simple heart knows the answer: It’s the fire of Love that melts our fear. Meera was a dancer But people were afraid: She was wild and seemed in a trance, For her partner was no mortal, Only with God would she dance. Meera danced outside in the darkness And in storms and rain, Men threw her out of the temple Told her she was sacrilegious And insane. Sangeet Portals, October 2023 Meera (or: Mira) Bai lived six hundred years ago and was a devotee of Krishna. She was born a princess in Rajasthan, India and became a spiritual rebel. She expressed her deep love for Krishna through (ecstatic) dance and many devotional songs (Bajans) which are still sung today.
