Meat Market

It started one day from an over fed bat
Raw and tasty alive and quite fat

Could be a snake the market was full
A rat, cat, all of them raw as well

But one creature stood out unusual at best
Strange looking and smelling it would pass the test

The poor pangolin a cute armored beast
Chinese gourmet food a savory feast

Dating far back to prehistoric times
Who knew eating it raw would be such a crime

Now corona is spreading and taking the living
Because of raw pangolin someone was given

It spread from the west all the way to the north
Killing and confusing before stopping short

From the north to the south and then to the east
Feeding on humans an unstoppable beast

Fear and panic rang out and the people they prayed
Bodies kept dropping humans were slayed

An invisible monster an unbeatable force
Traversed the whole world without any discourse

Wash your hands, social distance, stay in your house
Infected Or not keep to yourself

We wait for a cure, the buildings are closed
Roads are barren air traffic froze

Dark are the days black are the nights
Sleep stays away because of the frights

God bless us I pray for this to all end
Family and animals and all of my friends

But I pray for the pangolin caged for food
Who’s’ heart is pure and soul is good.

it was probably developed in a lab and let loose, either with intent, or by accident. it's referred to as culling the population. Wuhan and the wet markets, convenient. I am reading New York well on the way to surpassing as the epicentre. Trump opens the borders for trade, kaboom. x

Surely not the pangolin's fault... Superbly rendered poetic account of how this infernal pandemic started, Kelli. Thank you, Gershon

I have spent seven months in China visiting a large part of the country. Always I was very careful what I was eating for the Chinese eat whatever is alive . One can't imagine what these people eat! It was bound to happen. Now the whole planet has to suffer because of that. God help us all. A well written poem, excellently documented and narrated . Blessings. arating the
