Meaning

A child asks why, why
is the sun so hot, and
why is the moon white
and water clear, and
why do we have to die?

The grown-up ask too,
Why do you not love me,
why did that happen,
why do I feel so lost?

And what does God ask?
Not so much really--
just why can't you all
be kind to one another?

He even sent someone
to tell us this was His
one wish: to love, to love,
and we killed the poor man.
