Meadow
I became a deer
in a new meadow,
running from death
and finally resting.
I lay down
among the grasses
and closed my eyes,
weary in spirit.
The skies opened
and darkness fell
but I was safe
in the meadow.
My heart slept
as I recovered
and rain began
to fade away.
The sun shone
and I awoke,
a fresh heart
beating within.
New peace reigned
as I stood
and left the
meadow of safety.
The world was dark
but light shone
from within the
revived, lively deer.
