Me and a Tomcat

I saw him walk outside my place He caught my eyes with such a face. He seemed he had no appetite He was the same each day and night. I felt for him as it was clear To gain his trust and end his fear. It was so grey with sunken eyes I showed him food and hoped to rise. And come so close that I could pet With a tender touch if he would let. As he approached and made to eat I looked at him and watched his feet. I made no move. I only watched. He ate and left, and I was touched. I did the same each night and day. And in my heart of hearts, I’d pray To gain his heart with a gentle touch. Which he enjoyed so very much. The way he stood and looked at me Was a sign so clear that I could see. It was no food that drew him near He needed care, Oh lovely dear! And soon we had a friendly bond At last, he changed and me he loved.
