Maybe

Soulmates and friends for years
could not wait to get near
holding the other dear.

Sharing every far-reaching goal
peering into each other's soul
together they were whole.

So he could never understand
why when he asked for her hand
she refused his engagement band.

Now she kept her distance from him
playing a completely different game
and nothing ever seemed the same.

As she said her one final goodbye
tears fell from his sad, lonely eyes
how could a love so true ever die.

But he knew he will get her to agree
to be his bride someday
and love him back again, maybe.
