Mathematical
Man of mystery,
Name surviving history
Man of intelligence,
Where time has proved his relevance
Hero of allied lines,
Deciphering future war crimes
In a world of injustice,
His tortured soul was forced to live
His genius was undenied
But he never got to show his pride
Oh Alan, mathematician
To save our souls became your mission
A thinking that was radical
Your life was mathematical
And yet one thing did not compute
No reason fair could constitute
Your hearts enforced sabbatical
Your suffering was mathematical
You cracked the code,
That saved our men from overload
When hate set it's sail
You succeeded where all had failed
Focused on work
Hiding from where feelings lurk
Desires unspoken
Left your genius heart, broken
His mindfulness now analysed
Shows how much life he compromised
Oh Alan, Mathematician
You lived in a world of sad division
A thinking quite grammatical
Your life was mathematical
Though inner peace was lost
A hidden price, an unfair cost
True love was economical
Your suffering was mathematical
But how your flame burns bright
Your true desire to do what's right
Your stubborn need to solve
And world pain to resolve
Oh Alan, Mathematician
You lived through silence and derision
A thinking inspirational
Your life was mathematical
Without your brilliant mind
Where would be humankind
Though costs were astronomical
Your suffering was mathematical
-- Alan Turing, 1912-1954
