Notes About The Poem

Mask

I wake up in the morning, these days,
With a drive deep down inside,
To put on a mask to cover myself,
To leave my truth behind,

And pretend my life is under control,
Show the world I’ve figured things out,
To assume the thoughts up in my head,
Know what it’s all about,

You see I’ve studied the words people like to hear,
Studied and learnt what to say,
And figured that people like to hear good things,
Said about them every day,

And they like these things said with a smile,
They like to see what they see,
The happy and cheery mask on my face,
That’s what they like about me.
