Mary L

Mary L Mary L Last night a dream came to me. I have longed so much for you to see, Since that late afternoon you poured your goodbye, I didn’t hear it – so determined was I, Determined to comfort, to make it right. But I lost you, I lost you that very night. “I have something worse than you,” Was the first thing you said to me. Early onset Alzheimer’s, and I didn’t see, See that you didn’t want to be known that way, That you would hide from the world after that day. I thought it would be a long time, but it was not, Whether I understood or whether I not, I called and sent cards, to no avail, After all we meant to each other, I can only now wish you well. My dream, oh, yes, lest I forget, A group of shadows stood on the street, Dark we were, but then I saw you, In a bright blue dress, the only color to view, And you danced and you smiled with a pirouette, With that smile of yours I’ll never forget. I awoke in the dark that blue dress on my mind, And prayed my dream said “in your heart you’ll find Your friend is perfect without her former mind.” And the rest of us didn’t know, we were in the dark, Oh, I pray so, I hope so, that dancing Is in your mind and heart. Sunlite: I'm sorry about the loss of your friend - this is a very nice verse in remembrance of her. I too suffered a loss in July when my dear wife of 66 years, Vera, passed away due to Parkinsons disease. Glad you enjoyed the Green Bean Casserole write. I know there were lots of folks who were not fond of that dish. My daughter reminded me that "he" was a "she" and I updated the poem to reflect that! Best to you always - Bob

I am so sorry about your wife, Robert. 66 years is a long time to love and cherish someone. I sent the green been poem to my children (adults) and they really got a kick out of it - Said "May she rest in peace."
