Martha and Mary
I shall often remember Martha and Mary,
Sisters who cried their eyes out with sorrow
Before they laughed out loud with merry
Wishes to have their brother return on the morrow
I shall often pray with Mary and Martha,
Siblings who sang and praised the Lord
With all their strength over that matter
Spoken with a loud echo of a soft chord
Oh, sure, their brother, from the dead, has risen
And there’s loud merriment in the land
With strings and drums to which we all listen
For that, I shall rise and go and hire a band
The land must remain agog through the night
Fear not for any evil which envies the living
For they have no powers to be a blight
To our unending joyous ceremony of thanksgiving.
