Martha
“40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me! 41"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:40-42 NIV
There are many Marthas
In this world today;
Striving to make things perfect
In a distracted sort of way.
Then they get resentful
That others just don’t care;
Choose to enjoy the moment;
Leave them the stress to bear.
Stuff is not so important
But the Marthas don’t think so.
They labor and fret continually;
Real living they forego.
Just ‘being’ for the moment
They never understand;
Don’t stop to smell the roses,
Or enjoy the work of their hand.
The Marys of this world
Live in the here and now.
Don’t fret for all the stuff
Marthas accumulate here below.
The Marthas are well meaning
Of this there is no doubt,
But their world’s so meaningless;
Of the intangible they miss out.
Try not to be a Martha;
Take time to enjoy each day.
Special moments never repeated;
Time to study or to pray.
If your world’s not perfect,
No one will really mind.
If you follow Mary’s example,
Peace and joy, in Christ, you’ll find.
