Marshall, December 16, 2024

The machinery of life is too much The tests, the numbers, the x-rays You are the clown cat, Marshall, always making me smile Your white fur, your polydactyl hands that hold mine I hold you now, I let you go, I love you I breathe in your last breath with you.

Christine, welcome to Poetry Soup. Just went through losing our Wheaten terrier, Paddy, about six months ago. You have wonderfully expressed your loss in a powerful image of sharing a last breath. It breaks my heart and hope that you will find comfort in the support you are receiving here and with family and friends. Sending you blessings of comfort. PS - a miracle brought us a new puppy in May. His name is Mulligan.

Sam, Thank you for your welcoming to this platform and your kindness in regards to the loss of Marshall. I hope this gets easier soon, but I know from experience that grieving the loss of a pet only gets harder. I am sorry you lost your Paddy. I hope your new miracle puppy Mulligan helps ease the pain of Paddy being gone. Thank you for commenting. :)

Ink Empress, Thank you for your commentary here -- the last line of the poem does express that last moment with such a wonderful friend, my Marshall. Your words help. Thank you again.
