Marriage
I told you in the park that day
the day I got the deer tick
we walked the trails nowhere to go
walking to keep warm
to stay together
weak late winter sun no warmth
there in the clearing a good
one hundred dear stood
watching us
I told you when you asked me
what I wanted
that most of all I wanted
to be your wife
I WANTED to be your wife
it wasn't until I loved you that
I knew what wife meant.
or what the possibility of husband could mean
oh the anticipation the new discovery
churned in my stomach
made me anxious and feverish
to try
so this is marriage - when you heart bursts with certainty.
