Marked For Life

she is marked
this emblem of change
she persevered
this liberating sting
to win these wings of color
hearing the humming
of pain
as the needles
pierce her skin
with deliverance
the cocoon
her secret dungeon
falls to the ground
as she breaks away to fly
this symbol
forever hers
never erased
all her own
she cherishes the wings
of this butterfly
on her back
the perfect place
for all those
in her past to see
as she walks away
