Marea interna

Después vuelvo a casa.

muchas veces regresa a casa
para abrazar únicamente
la oscuridad.

Me consumen lentamente
mientras los salvo del incendio.

Nadie nota

siempre responde primero.

English translation Internal Tide There are those who come into my life as if my heart were an open home. They sit within my silences, rest upon my courage, wrap themselves in the peace I try to give. They take my time, my calm, my faith, like someone lighting a lamp without wondering who kept it alive. I smile. I listen. I hold storms that do not belong to me. And while everyone finds shelter in me, no one notices that my own roof is collapsing. Then I return home. And the door closes. There are no voices. No embraces. Only the echo of my footsteps and the endless noise in my head, reminding me that I gave too much. How strange it is to have a heart so large

that it is enough to save others, yet cannot find a way to save itself. Perhaps they did not break me in a single blow. Perhaps it was small absences, hands that only knew how to take, looks that mistook my kindness for an infinite resource. And here I remain, learning that light, too, runs out, that even the bravest souls deserve to rest. Because no one sees that the one who lights the way for others so often returns home to embrace only the darkness. They consume me slowly while I save them from the fire. No one notices that the light I give them is the very light I lack when I return home. And even so, if someone cries out for help, my broken heart always answers first.

A deeply moving free-verse poem, its restrained, spacious lines mirroring the speaker’s emotional exhaustion and solitude. The recurring imagery of shelter, light, fire, and darkness gives the piece a powerful inner coherence, while the closing confession—of a broken heart still answering first—lands with quiet, devastating tenderness.

I wish I can understand this. Welcome to Poetry Soup. I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.
