Many, Many Long Years Ago

I knew a girl with golden hair
With deep blue eyes and skin so fair
And,oh, it's true, I loved her so
Many, many long years ago

Stars shone brighter when she would smile
As we laughed easily awhile
And watched the lazy river flow
Many, many long years ago

We planned our future far and wide
But then one day her body died
Why I was there I did not know
Many, many long years ago

Life went on and now I am old
It was not much the truth be told
Somehow living became the foe
Many, many long years ago
