Man Versus Nature

are their eyes gazing at me
or the sparkling floor?
my back stretches and I sit up.
once again, I prove to be
utterly invisible.

the trash can has overflown,
and none care that yesterday's
news is covering the flowers,
none look in that direction,
their eyes guide their movements
yet lack the ability to see.

there is a pale, uprooted lily
lying limp and withered on the pavement.

man versus nature -
why does man conquer?
